Who are we?

Emerging Countries, Humans and OSTEOpaths

Echosteo is a non-profit association under the 1901 law.

This association has an ambitious project: to improve health in developing countries through osteopathy.

It was created in 2014 by two osteopaths: Julie Nicolas and Samuel Hagiakian, who wanted to expand the boundaries of osteopathy by bringing this therapy to developing countries.

The idea is that it would be particularly interesting for emerging countries to benefit from the contribution of osteopathy for a simplified care pathway, reduced medication intake and a reduction in health costs for frequent and very common pathologies (see osteopathy below).

On the other hand, we participate in the training of second cycle students (4th and 5th years), from various European schools (France, Belgium, United Kingdom), by offering them professional experience abroad, within hospital structures.

Finally, these missions are also wonderful journeys to meet fascinating people and cultures.

During the Covid-19 health crisis, overseas missions were suspended. The association therefore extended its outreach to social security borders by establishing a partnership with the Paris Samu Social. Its volunteers intervened within its reception facilities and provided free consultations. These French initiatives are now carried out by recurring graduates.

How a consultation takes place

Who is present?

  • Qualified osteopaths - TUTORS, experienced professionals, some even professors.

  • STUDENTS in the process of professionalization, from 4th and 5th years in various European schools (in France - Ostéobio, CEESO, COS - ULB in Belgium, and BSO in the United Kingdom).

  • Some of the staff at the hospitals we work in, who handle the logistics of scheduling appointments, consultations and patient care.

The consultation (carried out by a student and supervised by a tutor) includes:

  • An interview for anamnesis, history and targeted around their reason for consultation.

  • A physical examination including static, dynamic and palpatory tests to identify different areas of dysfunction.

  • All these steps allow us to establish a diagnosis and a treatment plan if osteopathy proves appropriate. If necessary, the patient will be informed and referred to their doctor or another healthcare professional.

  • Finally, we proceed with osteopathic treatment, using joint, muscular, or digestive manipulation or mobilization techniques. The treatment is accompanied by a series of recommendations.

The patient:

  • Patients are asked to bring their medical records, additional test results, etc.

  • To allow our work, we ask patients to remove certain items of clothing.

  • Each consultation lasts approximately 30 minutes.
